Wildlife at Firs Farm
Firs Farm is a vibrant sanctuary in the heart of our community. From the rare birds in our reedbeds to the vital pollinators in our wildflower meadows, we are home to an incredible array of local biodiversity. Explore the species that make these wetlands their home and learn how you can help us protect this precious natural heritage.

Avian Wonders
Firs Farm Wetlands is a sanctuary for diverse birdlife. From the striking flash of a Kingfisher to the patient vigil of the Grey Heron, our birdwatching spots offer a front-row seat to nature's most graceful inhabitants. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a curious visitor, the interconnected ponds provide a vital habitat and a peaceful retreat for all.

Water Voles
The Firs Farm wetlands provide a vital habitat for water voles, one of the UK’s most endangered mammals. Look for their characteristic burrows along the water's edge and listen for the distinctive 'plop' as they slip into the water. We work hard to manage the bankside vegetation to ensure these charismatic 'water rats' continue to thrive in our community sanctuary.

Newts & Amphibians
Our ponds and damp woodland areas are home to a variety of amphibians, including common frogs, toads, and the iconic Great Crested Newt. These species rely on the clean, still waters of our wetlands for breeding. By maintaining deep water areas and providing hibernacula nearby, we support the entire lifecycle of these fascinating creatures.
Pollinator Paradise
Discover the vibrant tapestry of wildflowers that calls Firs Farm home. From the early spring primroses to the late summer knapweed, our meadows provide a vital lifeline for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.
